How To Update Bios Asus P5qc Memory
View full ASUS P5QC specs on CNET. ASUS 3rd Generation 8-phase Power Design, ASUS AI Direct. The P5QC is an Intel® P45 chipset-based motherboard that combines powerful performance with great energy efficiency; and supports DDR3 1333 MHz or DDR2 1066 MHz dual-channel memory architecture and PCI Express 2.0 x16 for extreme graphics performance. It also comes with the world´s first ASUS EPU (Energy Processing Unit), allowing the CPU.

(huff) I just relised I can't upgrade my ASUS P5QC motherboard from 4gig of DDR3 to 8gig, by simply wacking in another 4 gig in the last 2 bays. It looks like thosee black slots are for DDR2. If I'm understanding this correctly, I can only use the 1st 2 slots: The website quotes. 2 x DIMM, Max. 8 GB, DDR3 1333/1066/800 Non-ECC,Un-buffered Memory 4 x DIMM, max. 16GB, DDR2 1066 / 800 / 667 MHz, Non-ECC, Un-buffered memory Dual channel memory architecture The website also states 'DDR2 1066MHz DIMMs work only on the black slots for one DIMM per channel.'
.so why would they state 4 x DIMM? So is the only way I can get this up tp 8gig DDR3 RAM, by replacing my 2x2Gig with 2x4gig? I can't even find 2x4gig DDR3 on the net?

What do you think guys? What are my options? DDR2 1066MHz DIMMs In this case, the MB supports DDR 800 and 667 in all four slots but if you want to use 1066, only the black slots support it. Thus you could run 2 800 modules with 2 1066 modules and have the 1066 modules underclocked to 800 (pointless to have 1066 in that case). What is the rest of your system like? What tasks are you using the PC for? 4gb is good for gaming so a ram upgrade suggests something other than that Edit: the manual suggests that the black slots are also better for overclocking, seems to be why they are the only ones to accept the 1066 modules.

Thanks for the replys guys (.in the non gender specific sense). So bummed I didn't see this detail when I put this together. Why would they design it like that?? Never again ASUS. Express gate never worked from day one.(continue rant) I'm thinking it would be cheaper to just upgrade the motherboard and buy another 4 gig of DDR3. Any Gigabyte S775 suggestions to run 8gig DDR3.
